Gypsy-jazz duo violinist Tim Kliphuis and guitarist Sam Miltich stopped by the Strings studio while passing through the Bay Area to perform at the annual Point Richmond Jazz series.

The pair played a few tunes from their latest album, Duets. Armed with his 1805 Jean Sohet violin and carbon-fiber bow (Kliphuis notes that his preferred bow contains ivory and he can’t travel around the U.S. with it), Kliphuis is ready to tackle repertoire inspired by jazz greats Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt.

Watch the duo perform “This Can’t Be Love,” and jazz standard “My One and Only Love,” which includes “chordal strumming,” a technique Kliphuis pioneered to accompany Miltich during his guitar solos.
