The Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition has announced six finalists who will move forward to the final round.
The semi-final round consisted of three parts: performing a piano trio, a Chinese work (Butterfly Lovers) and a sonata, and a Mozart Concerto, which required each semi-finalist to write and perform cadenzas for each movement with a chamber orchestra. As David Stern, Isaac’s son and jury co-chairman, announced the final competitors he said, “My father would be very proud of [all] of you.”
The six finalists are: Mayu Kishima (Japan); Sergei Dogadin (Russia); Stefan Tarara (Germany); Ming Liu (China); Richard Lin and Sirena Huang (United States). The final round begins Thursday, Sept. 1, and can be livestreamed here.
