Pirastro first launched its Evah Pirazzi violin string line in 2000 with its original set, which the company describes as “characterized by an overtone-rich, rather bright sound.” Twelve years later, it expanded the line’s offerings with a Gold set, “designed to emphasize the warm, round sound and somewhat darker sound spectrum.” This year, Pirastro made it a trio with another new set, the Evah Pirazzi Neo, developed in concert with violinist Janine Jansen. On the company’s sound chart, the Neo set sits at the “clear and focused” end of the spectrum (rather than warm) and is the most versatile of all Pirastro’s violin string offerings in terms of color and dynamic range possibilities. Meant to produce a powerful sound with little background noise, the synthetic-core Evah Pirazzi Neo was developed with tuning stability and easy response in mind.
