“It was fun,” Lara St. John said with a laugh, in a recent Strings feature about her recording of the Franck and Beethoven ‘Kreutzer’ sonatas with pianist Matt Herskowitz. “Like, really fun. We were able to approach them asking, ‘Well, what if we played them this way, or this other way, or what if we completely exaggerate here?’ Working together, we came to some new ideas that we think really, really work, though they are not necessarily in the preconceived traditions of most classical musicians of today.”

St. John and Herskowitz’ album, Key of A, was released on St. John’s own label Ancalagon in April. Here, they play the last movement of the Franck Sonata. Enjoy!
