D’Addario Gives its Micro Tuners a Boost

In a push to offer rechargeable tuners for the entire bowed-string family, D’Addario has recently unveiled its new Micro Tuners for violin and viola, which ditch disposable batteries in favor of a more convenient option. With up to 22 hours of life before needing to plug in, the upgraded Micro Tuners use USB-C rechargeable batteries, cable included.

The tuners are otherwise largely unchanged, with lever-lock clamps and padded mounts that fit all standard violin and viola sizes without marring their finish. The LED backlit screen tilts and displays both the note itself and pitch proximity in color. Calibration range is from 410–480Hz, and it is the instrument’s vibration, rather than its sound, that determines the tuners’ readings, courtesy of a piezo transducer.
