Ahead of the annual round of London auctions held in March, Beares Auctions has announced a new direction for the auction wing of the established shop, John & Arthur Beare. Under the banner of “Moto Perpetuo,” Beares’ will offer a new breed of instrument and bow auctions that provides sellers and buyers with flexibility that is traditionally unavailable in auction consignment periods and sales. The move may also make tracking auction sales and market trends more difficult.
According to a February 16 press release, items may come up for competitive sale as they become available, giving buyers access to new stock around-the-clock, while offering sellers an auction focused on their instrument. Some items will be available with a “buy now” option for one week before the three-week auction period begins.

Beares Auctions also announced its new auction policy that will keep auction sale prices private. It plans on removing items from the site immediately upon the sale’s conclusion, eliminating the ability of watchers to see sale prices.
