British violinist Chloë Hanslip puts the brakes to the notion that she’s a child prodigy who’s just along for the ride.

What Chloë Hanslip Plays
Hanslip recorded most recently on the fabled 1731 ex-Maurin Rubinoff Strad, believed to have belonged to the Czarist Romanov family and smuggled out of Russia before their assassination by the Bolsheviks. "It's the most extraordinary violin," Hanslip says. "I love it, despite the fact that it’s very temperamental. It has a very intense depth about it, especially on the D and G strings, which is very important to me. A Lupot is my main bow. I also have modern bow, a Schmidt. I use Thomastik Vision strings. It’s lovely when you put on a new set, they don’t slip after an hour or so.”
