Premiere in the Works for Manhattan School President
The Washington Square Contemporary Music Society will premiere a new work by composer and Manhattan School of Music president Robert Sirota and others April 7 at the Kaufman Center’s Merkin Concert Hall. On the program will be Sirota’s “Assimilations,” Louis Karchin’s Chamber Symphony, Laurie San Martin’s Two Pieces for Piano and Percussion, Richard Festinger’s Concerto for Piano and Nine Instruments, and Fabio Grasso’s “Blumentraum.”  kaufman-center.org

String Players Team Up with Old Rockers in Washington
Classical and contemporary youth musicians from the Washington State area will come together on May 15 at the Synergia Northwest 2010 Benefit to Aid Northwest Youth Music Education at the Landmark Convention Center in Tacoma, Washington. The concert will feature a 46-piece orchestra and singer-violinist-guitarist Tracy Bonham, six-string fiddler Geoffrey Castle, along with drummer Alan White (Yes, John Lennon), and guitarist Howard Leese (Heart, Paul Rodgers Band, Bad Company). synergianw.com

London Cello Society Presents CelloDay
In celebration of the cello, the London Cello Society will host another annual CelloDay for society members and friends April 18 at the Royal Academy of Music in London. The springtime event includes classes on technique and chamber music as well as a master class with the esteemed Alexander Baillie. The event is open to all amateurs, teachers, and fifth- to eighth-grade students. londoncellos.org
