Cellist David Soyer Dies at 87
Cellist David Soyer, a founding member of the disbanded Guarneri String Quartet, died February 25 at his home in Manhattan. Read the full obituary in an upcoming issue of Strings magazine.

DePauw University Hosts World Premiere of ‘E-Chi’
Electro-acoustic violist Martha Mooke will perform the world premiere of her work E-Chi for electric viola and percussion ensemble during the DePauw University Percussion Plus concert March 18 in Greencastle, Indiana. Admission is free. depauw.edu/music

Violin Prodigy to Perform with California Symphony
Teen violinist Chad Hoopes, who at age 13 won junior first prize at the 2008 Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition, will perform the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 with the California Symphony on March 7 and 9 in Walnut Creek, California. californiasymphony.org

NY Scandia Symphony Highlights Two US Premieres
Cellist Jonathan Aasgaard will make his US debut by giving the US premiere of Franz Xavier Neruda’s (1843–1915) Cello Concerto with the New York Scandia Symphony led by music director Dorrit Matson. The concert, which takes place March 9 at Trinity Church in New York City, will also include works by Ernest Bloch, Poul Schierbeck, Emil Hartmann, and Carl Nielsen. Harmonia Mundi Founder Bernard Coutaz Dies
Founder and chairman of Harmonia Mundi Bernard Coutaz died of a heart attack on February 26 in Arles, France. He was 87. His wife, managing director Eva Coutaz, will take over as head of the company. harmoniamundi.com

Print publisher Hal Leonard has picked up cellist Janet Horvath’s guide book Playing (Less) Hurt: An Injury Prevention Guide for Musicians and will release a new edition April 15. The first independently published version of the book came out in June 2002 and has since sold over 8,000 copies and won the gold medal in the Independent Publisher Awards 2009. halleonard.com
